Why this is happening now

The authority, stiftung ear, has been removing registrations that don't meet the new requirement — which is why sellers who registered years ago under the old rules are suddenly finding their registration gone, with no obvious warning.

Step-by-step: restoring your registration

1. Confirm what was cancelled. Check your stiftung ear account (or ask whoever managed your original registration) to see which battery categories were affected — portable, LMT, EV, industrial, starter.
2. Appoint a German Authorised Representative. This is the step that was missing. Without it, any new registration attempt runs into the same wall.
3. Re-register each affected category, with correct chemistry and composition data — errors here are one of the most common causes of delay.
4. Join a take-back scheme (OfH) if you sell portable batteries — registration alone is not sufficient; scheme participation is checked separately.
5. Resume quantity reporting on the required calendar, so the registration stays valid going forward.

What happens if you wait

Selling batteries — or products that contain batteries — in Germany without a valid registration exposes you to fines that can reach €100,000, in addition to marketplace suspension and potential claims from competitors. Waiting does not reduce the exposure; it extends it.
