Your German battery registration was cancelled. Here is what to do, in order.

BattDG · stiftung ear · Updated July 2026
In one sentence: if your battery registration was removed from Germany's register because you had no German Authorised Representative, you can restore market access by appointing one and re-registering — but every day without a valid registration is a day your listings can be pulled.

Why this is happening now

Since Germany's new battery law (BattDG) replaced the old BattG in October 2025, appointing a German representative stopped being optional for producers without a German establishment. The authority, stiftung ear, has been removing registrations that don't meet the new requirement — which is why sellers who registered years ago under the old rules are suddenly finding their registration gone, with no obvious warning.

Step-by-step: restoring your registration

  1. Confirm what was cancelled. Check your stiftung ear account (or ask whoever managed your original registration) to see which battery categories were affected — portable, LMT, EV, industrial, starter.
  2. Appoint a German Authorised Representative. This is the step that was missing. Without it, any new registration attempt runs into the same wall.
  3. Re-register each affected category, with correct chemistry and composition data — errors here are one of the most common causes of delay.
  4. Join a take-back scheme (OfH) if you sell portable batteries — registration alone is not sufficient; scheme participation is checked separately.
  5. Resume quantity reporting on the required calendar, so the registration stays valid going forward.

What happens if you wait

Selling batteries — or products that contain batteries — in Germany without a valid registration exposes you to fines that can reach €100,000, in addition to marketplace suspension and potential claims from competitors. Waiting does not reduce the exposure; it extends it.

Why this takes longer to fix than packaging

A common frustration: packaging (VerpackG) issues are often resolved within days, while battery registrations can take longer. The reason is structural, not bureaucratic — five separate categories, chemistry documentation requirements, and OfH coordination all add real steps. A representative who has done this before moves faster simply because they know which documents stiftung ear asks for first.

Restore your registration

Our Battery module (€890/year + €290 setup) includes representative appointment, all five category registrations, OfH coordination and ongoing reporting. If your listings are already affected, tell us — we treat these as priority.
